Hey ladies and gents. It’s been a while, eh?
So, we’ve done a few different face masks so far and even a nail treatment. How about we try something different? This week I will be sharing with you one of my favored hair masks sing an amazing fruit: the avocado!
In earlier times, avocado pulp was used as a hair treatment to stimulate hair growth. Several hair and cosmetic products still use avocado oils in their ingredients. With summer heat creeping in (give me a break, I live in Florida) the hydrating effect this mask offers is a great answer those summer heat side effects. Not only is it a great re-hydrater, but the mask is also rich with proteins and vitamins which aide the hair in regaining its nutrition, body, shine, and elasticity. The avocado alone contains more then 25 essential nutrient and vitamins.
What you will need is one avocado, one egg yolk, and one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. For shorter hair use half an avocado instead of a whole one.
1) Slice the avocado, remove the seed, and then spoon out the flesh in to a dish. Mash with a fork, using force to ensure that there are no chunks left over. If necessary, you may even use a food processor or blender. I use a hand mixer.
2) Add in the egg yolk and EVOO, mix/blend thoroughly.
3) Wet your hair with warm water and use your fingertips to massage the scalp. This encourages more blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles.
4) Apply the mixture in small sections starting with the back of your head and working towards the crown. Starting at the scalp, massage the mixture in and the down the hair shaft.
5) (optional) Apply a plastic cap over your head and apply heat for 15-20 minutes. I tie a grocery bag around my hair.
6) If you do not use the heat option, pile hair up against the scalp (dutch braids pinned to the head, french twist, etc) and let sit for twenty minutes.
7) Rinse the treatment completely from the hair and follow with your regular shampoo and conditioner.
Viola! You should be able to see and feel a difference already. Do not use this mask too often, for you hair could become accustomed to it and lose some of it’s effectiveness.
Thanks so much for stopping by! This is one of my favorite summer masks and I hope it works just as well for you!
